Which scale should you buy?

Start with capacity: pick a little above the heaviest load you weigh in a day. Forty kilograms is the standard for a greengrocer or market stall — the ACS-809T and the shielded ACS-805 are the best sellers in that class. If you handle sacks, crates and boxes, look at the 150 kg TCS-K1, the 300 kg TCS-K2+SR or the 1000 kg TCS-K4+SR with its 60 × 80 cm platform.

Then precision: a 40 kg scale usually reads in 5 g steps, which is more than enough for produce. For spices, nuts or anything valuable you want the 2 g steps of the ACS-759D, and for sub-gram work the MH series pocket scale reading to 0.01 g.

Then the display: a double-sided LCD lets the customer see the weight, the unit price and the total from their own side. On an open stall that settles arguments before they start. Single-display models are fine for a warehouse or a kitchen.

Finally the battery: rechargeable models keep working through a power cut and at a market with no sockets. For a scale that stays plugged in behind a counter, it is not essential.
